Cotton Candy Colored Summer

By Lisa Dante

Considering most of us just spent more than a year social distancing from our own wardrobes, the desire to get dressed up again is stronger than ever. One thing is for sure, we are definitely more social than last summer.

I hear the sweet sound of freedom and picture myself running through a field of flowers like a Disney character. Well, maybe not in the Texas heat…lol…
After all, the pandemic has left us a little stir crazy.

The hottest time of year calls for the coolest of fabrics and colors.
What to wear? Probably anything but pajamas and lounge wear, right?
Summer is all about lightening things up.

The cool effects of pastel colors are not to be denied. Any muted shade can be described as a pastel. Pink, mauve, pale yellow, baby blue, mint, peach, periwinkle, and lavender are a few pastels that come to mind.

These colors remind me of sun dappled, lazy summer afternoons and a gentle life of sipping an ice cold lemonade on the front porch with the sound of the sprinkler and kids splashing in the pool in the background.

TIPS FOR WEARING PASTELS
An entire outfit in a single lovely pastel will always look incredible.
But of course you can throw two different pastel colors together for a softly bold creation. Wear a brighter lipstick to complement the gentler hues.
Pastels combined with white are a striking combo that captures the essence of summer.

Not ready to take the plunge? You can always add a pastel accessory such as a handbag or shoes and you will still exude the
light aspect of the look.
Don’t obsess over the details. No need to add lace to pastels or bring out the ribbons, unless you want to look like an antique doll!

But seriously, denim looks great with pastels. Try a pair of blue jeans with a white top and a pale pink blazer. Perfection!
I also love black, combined with ivory and mauve. Another incredible combination is to pair a pale salmon color with the lightest of turquoise.

No matter the season, pastel colors can be worn with ease. You can make it look chic, edgy, Bohemian or just simply feminine.
