Effortless and sophisticated, or bold and expressive. Maybe it’s just “faux” fun. Whether for saving money or saving animals faux fur reflects the current state of fashion.
There’s something to be said about a material that is as much a political statement as it is a fashion statement. Real or fake, fur is still an extremely controversial topic with serious environmental concerns on both sides of the issue. But what does it mean for the future of fashion?
Synthetic fur has become extremely popular and affordable. Available in every color under the rainbow. One of my favorite looks are faux leather leggings worn with a big fluffy faux fur.
The popularity of natural fur has gone up and down over the years.
Gucci has joined other animal friendly labels by announcing its commitment to being completely fur free. It seems like faux fur may have found a permanent place on the runways, especially with more brands than ever selling faux options at a variety of price points.
The future of the faux fur industry may soon benefit from advances in biotechnology too. I was recently reading about how scientists are working on growing synthetic fake fur in a lab, much like fake diamonds. Interesting.
A TIP FOR WEARING FAUX FUR
Most faux fur jackets are pretty fluffy, therefore whatever you choose for your bottom half, for example, pants, skirts or leggings, should fit closer to the body. This way your silhouette receives a very nice balance.
FAUX FUR CARE
After sitting in your closet for nearly a year awaiting the first cold front of the season your fur can become a little dull. Believe it or not, you can use a clean, wire pet brush to gently brush the fur. Keep in mind this is only recommended for fake fur, NOT real fur! Leave the care of real fur to the experts.
Sometimes I just take my fake fur outside and give it a good shaking to release any dust and it fluffs right up.
Faux fur is essentially a symbol of the modern era. So affordable, you can choose a wildly different color every day depending on your mood.
